FAQs
Our Proofreading service polishes already good writing and ensures your document is ready for submission. It is designed to identify occasional small errors and to ensure that formatting and referencing are consistent.
Our Proofreading Plus service addresses the same issues as our proofreading service but is designed for writing that contains a higher number of errors. The service costs more as it takes a much longer time to identify a high number of mistakes. Details of our Proofreading Plus service can be found here.
Under both of our services we will not make any changes to the meaning, content or logic of your ideas and analysis. Your work will remain your own.
Furthermore, in terms of both of our services, an important point to note is that if you are a non-native English speaker and your document contains a lot of mistakes, neither proofreading nor proofreading plus will transform it into absolutely perfect English. That would only be possible if we were to rewrite your document. However, that is not part of our service. Instead, the reason why our service is valuable is that we identify the main English language problems that will distract your reader if they are left uncorrected. This will improve the readability of your writing and ensure that your ideas and analysis are presented clearly and effectively.
No. We do not offer essay writing services. We will also not rewrite plagiarised work. We will simply help you finalise your own writing by removing English language problems that may distract your reader's attention from your analysis and ideas.
We specialise in social sciences/humanities and we are therefore best placed to help researchers in these fields. While we have previously proofread for those who research natural sciences we may not always be able to help with very technical writing where a high degree of subject expertise is necessary. If you research natural sciences and are interested in our services please get in touch with us via our 'Contact' page. We can then discuss your needs and whether we are able to help.
It is the customer's responsibility to check their institution's guidelines and for accepting or rejecting any of the corrections we suggest. All of the corrections we suggest will be shown in Track Changes.
If you send us your institution's guidelines, we can make sure any corrections we propose adhere to those rules.
In the absence of specific guidelines we will only do the following:
Identify spelling and typographical errors
Identify poor grammar, e.g., tense use, verb form, sentence structure, word order
Highlight formatting errors or inconsistencies
Identify spelling/grammar/typographical errors in labelling of diagrams, charts or figures
Identify typographical errors in equations
Highlight a sentence or paragraph that is overly complex or where the intended meaning is not clear
Draw attention to repeated phrases or omitted words
Identify errors in the referencing system applied
We will not as part of either of our services add content, change your analysis, check facts or reorder large sections of text.
The customer is responsible for declaring whether their work has been professionally proofread if that is necessary according to their institution's guidelines.
If the customer believes that any correction that we suggest does not comply with their institution's guidelines, it is the customer's responsibility to reject the change using the track changes function.
All the corrections we propose to your document will be shown in Microsoft Word 'Track Changes'. All of those corrections are proposals and you can accept or reject them using track changes. We will also often add comments to your document.
We are always happy to discuss any of the corrections we propose. If you have any questions, please just get in touch with us via our 'Contact' page or WeChat and we will respond as soon as we can.
Because we often make a lot of changes to a document, we will not explain every change with a comment. However, we are more than happy to discuss any questions you have about the changes we propose. Please just get in touch via our 'Contact' page and we can explain any changes that you have questions about.
Even professionally published articles and books that go through several rounds of editing and proofreading will always contain very occasional typos, grammar mistakes or formatting inconsistencies that make it through to the final manuscript. The Society of Editors and Proofreaders says that professional proofreading should remove over 90 percent of errors. We aim for a higher rate of above 95 percent and we are confident we can achieve that. Achieving this level of error-elimination will result in substantial improvements to the quality of your document and mean the service has provided excellent value for money. It is also important to emphasise there are issues concerning style and word choice that are highly subjective, where there is no 'right' or 'wrong' choice. If you disagree with an amendment we suggest to your document you can either simply reject it or you can contact us and we will suggest some alternatives. We are always happy to disucss any changes we suggest and will reply quickly to any query.
We only edit Microsoft Word documents.
Our website only allows documents of under 5MB to be uploaded through the order form. If your document contains graphics and is larger than this please email it to us after you have completed the rest of the order form and made your payment.
There are only three of us and we all have degrees from leading UK universities and have track records of achieving outstanding scores and successful peer-reviewed academic publications. We never outsource work. If we are too busy to help with your document we will tell and we won't get somebody who doesn't have the same skills as us to do it just to earn money. Companies who say they have hundreds of editors and can provide services 365 days a year can only do this by outsourcing work to freelancers, often whose only qualification is that they are an English native speaker.
No, we will not rewrite plagiarised work.
